Pizza, Vinyl Records, and a Spring Afternoon in Seattle
There’s something about a gray spring day in Seattle that feels perfect for film photography. The soft overcast light and muted tones came together beautifully for this Capitol Hill engagement session.
We started the afternoon at Dino’s Tomato Pie grabbing pizza and drinks at one of their favorite neighborhood spots. Some of my favorite images from the day happened right there inside the shop — dreamy window reflections, candid moments between bites of pizza, and the kind of interaction that naturally unfolds when couples are simply enjoying time together. Shooting on 35mm film added even more softness and texture to the atmosphere.
After lunch we wandered over to Spin Cycle Records to browse vinyl, share favorite albums, and document a few quiet moments together. From there we headed toward Volunteer Park where we photographed around the historic water tower before climbing to the top for views overlooking Seattle. The moody sky and grainy film textures made everything feel cinematic, almost like scenes from a 90s romance film.
We wrapped up near the Seattle Asian Art Museum and the Black Sun sculpture with the Seattle skyline in the distance.
Sessions like this are always my favorite — relaxed, documentary-driven, and centered around real moments rather than stiff posing. All photographed on 35mm film using Kodak Portra and Kodak Tri-X.
