Why the W.W. Seymour Conservatory Is Perfect for Intimate Tacoma Weddings
Raquel and Tyler’s intimate wedding took place at the W.W. Seymour Conservatory in Wright Park, Tacoma, WA, surrounded by their closest family members during a quiet spring ceremony in 2025.
I love working in this space for its natural light, lush greenery, and timeless atmosphere. It’s an ideal setting for small, meaningful celebrations where the focus stays on connection and presence. The historic glass conservatory creates a unique environment that feels both elegant and relaxed, offering beautiful light throughout the day and a stunning backdrop for portraits without ever feeling overwhelming.
For this wedding, we used a hybrid approach, blending digital photography with film. I photographed the day using a mix of 35mm and medium format film alongside digital capture to preserve both the feeling and the details of the day. I brought along some of my favorite classic analog film cameras including the Contax G1 rangefinder and the Mamiya C220 TLR.
Film responds to light differently than digital, and I love how it adds softness, richness, and texture to these kinds of environments. When paired with a setting like the W.W. Seymour Conservatory, it creates imagery that feels timeless and honest. The combination of natural light filtering through the glass structure and the organic textures of the surrounding plants lends itself especially well to film photography.
One of my favorite aspects of intimate weddings is the opportunity to slow down and be present. Without the pace and logistics that often accompany larger events, there is more room for genuine interactions, quiet moments, and meaningful connections between family members. These moments often become some of the most memorable photographs from the day.
Raquel and Tyler’s wedding was a beautiful reminder that intimate celebrations can be just as meaningful and visually striking as larger events. Their day centered on what mattered most: spending time with the people they love and celebrating the start of a new chapter together in one of Tacoma’s most beautiful wedding locations.
