Less is more…right? That seems to be a fairly accurate expression.

We tend to over complicate things, not just in our creative world but also our daily lives. Our world and our Universe are infinitely complex. Do our photos need to be complex? No.

Photography at it’s most simplistic level is about capturing light. Not an emotion, not a moment, not a feeling. Light. It’s our own personal inflection and how we choose to capture that light and the time in which it is captured that invokes those traits. As a photographer I am drawn to interesting light and I am constantly looking around me and analyzing the photons that are bouncing all around me. When Jorgen came over to do a few photos just for fun we had an idea of what we wanted to do in terms of setup. I knew I wanted to use a seamless background and I gave him an option of dark or light colored. Once we got setup we noticed that the light flowing through the windows in my new apartment was quite soft and had a nice fall off. We kept the blinds open to let some texture hit the background.

Expose for your subject’s skin and start shooting. Simple as that.

We also did a few shots in one of the empty back bedrooms where there was a sliver of light projected onto the wall. The perfect light is there, you just have to look for it.
