From the Hoh Rainforest to the Pacific Coast — a cinematic Olympic National Park engagement session
An Olympic National Park engagement session is never just about one location—it’s about the journey between landscapes, and the way the Pacific Northwest constantly shifts from dense forest to open coastline in a matter of miles.
I met Kali and Shawn in the Hoh Rainforest to begin their session. The drive in alone is part of the experience—twisting roads, thick evergreen canopy, and that quiet feeling you only get when you’re surrounded by some of the oldest living trees in the world. We spent time wandering through the moss-covered trails, letting the scale of the forest set the tone. Everything feels slower there, softer somehow, as light filters through layers of green.
From the rainforest, we made our way toward the coast in search of the last stretch of daylight. Along the drive, we came across a large elk resting near an estuary—completely unbothered by our presence, as if it were just another part of the landscape. Moments like that always feel like a reminder that this place operates on its own rhythm.
As we arrived at Ruby Beach, the energy shifted again. The shoreline was lined with massive driftwood, and the sky had taken on a hazy pink tone from distant wildfire smoke drifting across the region. It gave everything a cinematic, slightly surreal quality—soft light mixed with moody color and the sound of waves rolling in.
This Olympic National Park engagement session reached its peak right at sunset. Kali and Shawn kicked off their shoes, stepped into the cold water, and ran along the shoreline like nobody else existed around them. There’s something incredibly honest about that kind of movement—no posing, no pressure, just two people fully present with each other.
What stood out most wasn’t just the scenery, but how naturally they moved together through it all. From ancient forest to open ocean, they never felt out of place. Just connected, relaxed, and completely themselves.
