Holly – West Seattle Portrait Photographer

I recently did a portrait session in West Seattle with fellow photographer Holly Kerchner of Wild Ideal Photography.

Making friends in the photography world can be difficult at times. I’m naturally introverted so reaching out to others is difficult on it’s own, but then bring in egos and attitudes related to your trade and it makes it even more difficult. It’s refreshing to meet other creatives who are interested in the things you love and you can enjoy that passion together without pretension.

Holly had posted on a Facebook group for Seattle Photographers that I follow, she was looking for someone to trade headshots with. Specifically film shots. I jumped at the opportunity, especially after looking at Holly’s work (you can view her photography here).

We met up in West Seattle and shot in the early morning sun. Most of these shots are digital currently (I will make another post with my film scans from this session). I typically use my DSLR as very expensive light meter when I’m shooting film since it helps with previsualization as well as telling me what my exposure will look like. Unfortunately none of my medium format film bodies can use a Polaroid back on them so the DSLR fulfills that purpose. I was quite jealous of Holly’s Mamiya 645AF body, it’s a beautiful camera, she shot exclusively on film for this session and I’m quite eager to see her results.
